David Hastie | Garden Design Process

STAGE 1
Initial Site Visit and Consultation
The design process starts with an initial onsite consultation with you to look over your garden and discuss your requirements, to consider a ‘design brief’ and your budget.

Following this initial site meeting you will receive a summary of the discussion, outlining key features of the design and a breakdown of design fees.

STAGE 2
Site Survey and Analysis

Once design services are agreed, a detailed Topographical Survey of your garden is carried out by a surveyor to accurately map all dimensions and levels across the site.

STAGE 3
Outline Proposals

Following the survey, outline proposals can be developed for discussion with you to agree the final design. This is a concept stage which typically includes scaled layout plans of your garden, elevations of the key elements and inspiration images to convey the look and feel of the new design showing hard landscaping materials and planting style.

STAGE 4
Detailed Design

Once the new garden design has been agreed, plans will be drawn up in detail, including scale drawings, elevations and construction details as required. These drawings are highly detailed with exact technical measurements that give the landscape contractor all that they need to lay out and construct the garden. They can also be used to seek quotes from landscape contractors.

STAGE 5
Planting Plans

Following on from Stage 4, the planting plan is drawn up in consultation with you to ensure that your preferred plants are included, and specifically to utilise expert plant knowledge to select a range of plants that will thrive in your garden. This will include a full scale plan showing locations and quantities of individual plants and a detailed species list with plant descriptions, sizes and photographs.

David Hastie Garden Design can supply all selected plants for your garden at competitive prices and arrange planting on your behalf.

STAGE 6
Tendering and Project Monitoring

In discussion with you, the final garden design is shown to selected contractors. The tender package includes detailed designs and construction details so contractors can accurately quote to carry out the construction of the garden.

Once you have chosen your preferred contractor and the build starts, David Hastie Garden Design can carry out regular site visits to ensure the construction follows the agreed design and specification, and that the work is carried out to the highest professional standards.
